DANA BLAIR
Artist’s Bio…
My sojourn into the art of glassblowing began ten years ago when I was given a gift certificate for an introductory glass blowing course at FireHouse Glass Studio in Vancouver, WA. I was mesmerized by the infinite form, color and magical independence of the medium and ended up taking almost every course FireHouse had to offer. I found my artistic passion.
I prefer experimenting with color at play in traditional glass forms: vases, platters, bowls, floats, ornaments, paperweights and garden art. I suspect this comes from the influence of my parents: my attorney father, who always played by the rules, and my artist mother who encouraged me not to.
In the summer of 2004 I was accepted as a juried glass artist for the Vancouver Farmers’ Market. At this point my partner and I established A Glass Act as our official business . Four successful summers at the market have generated many repeat customers and several commissioned pieces that keep me challenged through the winter months. In addition to the seasonal Vancouver Farmer’s Market, my work can also be seen at Firehouse Glass Gallery and Gallery 21 in Vancouver. For the last two years I have been a vendor and featured artist at Vancouver’s Festival of the Trees, where my ornaments were selected to adorn one of the trees which were auctioned as part of the Rotary Club’s annual fund raiser.
I am a 3rd generation Vancouver native and completed my undergraduate degree in education at Washington State University and a Masters Degree in Education from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. When I am not blowing glass, I am a high school teacher. I have taught physical education and photography for 29 years at Columbia River HS in Vancouver where I also coach the Chieftain Volleyball, Softball, and Bowling teams.
